Books That Feed The Soul

Hi, friends!

This summer I want to do a lot of reading because I finally have the time. While I will still be working full-time, I won't have any classes. Whooo hoo! With that being said, I have picked out a few books and Bible studies to read and complete this summer. I have already started a few and am so excited to finish them. I like reading multiple books at a time. I know that seems weird to some people but I love it! :)

It's always a great time to grow in your relationship with the Lord, but summer is especially great because the days are longer and time seems to pass a little slower.  I want to get better at spending time in God's presence. It always seems easier to turn on the TV or scroll through social media rather than opening the Bible or going through a Bible study. But in the end, a TV show or social media will never feed your soul and speak to your heart the way God does. I hope these suggestions encourage you to grow in your faith this summer!

I think we all struggle with feeling insecure and unwanted. This book has helped me to understand my identity in Christ and I've only read the first three chapters!

We must hold fast to the truth of who God is and His unchanging nature: God is good. His plans are good. His requirements are good. His salvation is good. His grace is good. His forgiveness is good. His restoration is good.
Live from the abundant place that you are loved, and you won’t find yourself begging others for scraps of love.

It can be super hard to understand the Bible; I sometimes struggle to find meaning in stories that took place in completely different time periods. It can be rough but I know that the Bible is God-breathed and therefore holds truth and power. Of course, the first step in gaining more from the Bible is prayer, but I do think it can be helpful to learn a few tips on breaking down scripture.

I first got into Priscilla Shirer by watching her sermons on Youtube. I love her show "The Chat with Priscilla" and my favorite sermon of hers is "Who's your Daddy?". If you have never listened to her, you need to! She is SO empowering. I've literally watched so many of her sermons and thought it would be a good idea to grab a Bible study of hers.

Here is session one if you want to start this study:

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
Ephesians 6:10-12

You can never go wrong with Beth Moore! I am actually following this series online through Lifeway Women. I'm hoping to learn a lot from this series, the videos are so good. So far, session 1 and 2 are up on the Lifeway Women website.

Here is session one if you want to start this study:

Caroline Leaf is simply incredible. I love how she has used science, something usually seen as anti-religious, to glorify God. This book is about renewing your brain through the act of positive thinking.

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
Romans 12:2
For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.
2 Timothy 1:7

I hope I can finish these books and Bible studies by the end of summer! If not, I can always continue reading them throughout the school year. I hope this post gave you some encouragement in drawing closer to God and reading your Bible more! Christian books are always great to read but God's word is forever and all powerful.

Have a blessed day!
